Summery Chalkboards for Rebecca Chan Events
Rebecca Chan Events is always up to something fun and this activation for Oxford properties was no different! I was so excited and inspired by the vibrant colours and tiles sent to me as reference for my sketches.
For this particular commission there are three A-frame sandwich boards which means there are 6 sides to letter on! The tricky part of this activation is that it is an outdoor activation! As we all know regular chalk doesn’t hold up well in rain, but luckily I know all the tricks to create a chalkboard look without real chalk and using a medium that stands up to water a little bit better than chalk, and had better colours too!
For these pieces I used the Stabilo Woody crayons which are a waxy texture that stays put and won’t smudge on chalkboards, but are easily removable by warm water and a cloth. The benefits is that the artwork stays put and the pencils come in a variety of bright and bold colours. I paired the colours with some clean composition with a mix of serifed style and scripted lettering with colourful patterned borders from the tile inspiration that was provided.
Rebecca Chan and her team pulled out all the creative stops with live music, a gelato station, games and prizes! A lovely summer moment indeed with Rebecca Chan Events and Oxford Properties.
